No SAT Live Shows for AUG....

In August, there will be a temporary break for our saturday night's Live Show.
Saturday's Live Show will be back on soon in September with a whole new theme.

We will release the new as soon as possible!

Last Saturday was our 5 Artistes-In-Progress' last performance since the start of their weekly performance training in May 07. Week after week, they have relentlessly brought us new songs or old songs with new feel.

Now, after 12 weeks of performances, they will 闭关修炼… In their last 2 months of training, they will need to improve more on their 台上魅力, and we’ll be arranging them to sing more demos to improve on their vocal recording skills.

Any new updates on the AIPs, we will update immediately to this BLOG!

THE REAL SINGER 实在歌手 AUDITION @ 2PM
This Saturday, we will also be having our audition seeking for our 2nd batch of too. Selected ones will be arranged to go through a 6-months intensive training to hone them as a professional singer. Potentially, they will be signed as a Hark Artiste and singles will be produced for them, pushing for overseas development.

So, if you are one who loves to sing, and hope to realise your dreams realistically, come on down to Hark this Saturday at 2pm.

Now, more than hundreds have registered. You wouldn't want to miss this chance.
Be prepared to present your best!

Ruth - She sang 单身潜逃 (戴佩妮)
Song delivery was fine..though low notes were shaky. Overall, I think the song did not managed to bring out her potential. 可惜。。可惜。。

Bonus Segment - She sang and played the piano!
Vocal was a little 'chopped off here, chopped off there' due to the need to look at her fingers on the right chords position during singing...

Aaron - He sang 重返寂寞 (张智成)
He've got a nice tonal quality to his high notes...Low notes need more improvement. Good, natural stage presence too.

Bonus segment - He performed a MAGIC card trick!
Most of the audience did not really know what's happening as the trick that he've prepared were more of a street trick. Which means, it is more suitable for an intimate setting rather than performed on stage to about 80plus strong audiences... So, sadly...most didn't manage to enjoy his trick...

Fanny - She sang 安宁(孙燕姿)
A good vocal tone to develop, with a natural x-factor.
Surprisely, without impressive vocal techniques & delivery, she got one of the highest votes too.

Bonus Segment - She concocted Lychee Martini!
Hmm...really, I was expecting some bartending tricks like throwing the bottles, shaker...ehh..but all she did was "shake..shake...then pour....". Hmmm......

Forrest - He sang 听海 (张学友)
Most of us (even the other contestants) felt that he chose the wrong song. The song was too much of a ballad style for him. His forte is ROCK!!!! A pity..though..

Bonus Segment - A 3mins Hair Skitch!!!

It was truly quite an entertaining skitch from him. As a hairdresser himself, he prepared a short performance, incorporating music, hair-cutting, humourous acting which managed to bring laughter to the house! POWER! :D

Sophia - She sang 'Open Your Eyes' (张惠妹)
Although she did not manage to finish the 1st stanza of the song, no doubt, she've got one of the best voice in the night. She've got only about 3 friends with her but she managed to gather one of the highest votes that night! If you think the judges 'ting!' for people who doesn't sing well, you are wrong! She's without much consideration, one of the high scorers of the night.

Bonus Segment - She played a Richard Clayderman piece.
Not bad....just that she did not use the sustain pedal thus the song sounded a little.....erm....eh....broken??

Wenyang - He sang 背叛 (曹格)
Nice voice. Really... It was very impressive in the beginning.. Sadly, he couldn't sustain his notes well when the song climaxed. This is really a very VERY difficult song to do. But I dare say, he really can sing...just a pity that it wasn't a good song for competition due to the stress and pressure... From the 1st chorus onwards, his voice wasn't stable enough to handle the high notes..thus rhythm went a little off too. Really a pity. Anyway, work hard next time!!!

Another pity here. His mic was too far from his mouth. Therefore, most of us could not hear his singing.

2nd half Contestants
Hmm.. some were not here in the picture too.. Eh...they went toilet too? Haha!!

Daisy - She sang 我要快乐 (张惠妹)

(you see...soo many 自弹自唱....)

She's the first player to gain postive comments from the judges. The entire piece was properly delivered with fine playing and consistent singing. Good job!

Zhenzhou - He sang 戒不掉 (庾澄慶)

Hmm...I guess everyone had the deep impression of Harlem's version, with strong, deep, full voice. Thus, most felt his voice wasn't 'big' enough for the song. And....I think he frowned too much. You see, I couldn't even choose a nice picture for him.. All his photos were 'frowned'. ;(

Bonus Segment - He imitated Jacky Cheung.
Hard, right?? Some parts were rather good, especially the low notes... But lacks our 歌神's solid & signature vibrato.... However, the good part was, he managed to capture 歌神's stage dominance..He got the crowd clapping with him through his impersonation.. ;) hmm...GOOD.

Xue Wei - She sang 我也很想他 (孙燕姿)
Very nice voice tone. The judges all had good comments for her!

Bonus Segment - She sang and played the piano!
(Ooh...not again.....)

She did a good job here too! The judges had good comments for her performance and even asked who's her pop piano instructor! It's Jane! :)

Xiaofang - She sang 再一次拥有 (龚诗嘉)
A rather timid gal. Nice vocal tone but lacked proper vocal techniques.
However, we can see the good spirit in her to receive comments from our judges and seek for further improvement! That's the way!

Bonus Segment - She sang and played the guitar!
(Girl playing guitar...very 'Chio', right?? ;) hahaa..)
Everyone commented that she performed better for this segment. She looked and seemed much more comfortable holding & playing a guitar... Yes, Xiaofang, we think you've got much potential to develop....Carry on!

Jeslene - She sang 爱过 (戴佩妮)
Very good vocal tone and technique. Not much to say for your vocal..Great Job!

Well, the area she can improve on now is her 造型... Having a visual impression is essential for a performer. We hope you take it in your stride and try to improve on this area...We know you can do it and sure, you've got great potential! Go, girl!

Bonus Segment - She rapped!!!

I say - GREAT!!!! I think everyone enjoyed your performance.

Jerviel - He sang 其实还爱你 (阿沁)
Maybe young, maybe due to lack of stage experience....He've got a special nasal tone to his voice, which I thought is unique. Mainly, due to the lack of vocal control, caused him not being able to deliver his chosen piece smoothly. Advice - Gain more stage experience, boy...That's what you're mainly lacking in compared to your stronger counterparts that night...(Yes!...those who sang well have had many performing & competing experiences....)

Bonus Segment - He sang a Jap song acapella.

Hmmm...sadly, his flaws were shown during this segment. Voice sounded too shaky, pitching was a little off in the first few phrases.. Nevertheless, don't get discouraged! Remember this experience, it's a important phase leading to your success!!! :)

Fairness...Unbiased...

Ohh, seems like many people have quite a number of concerns over the 加分题...

As mentioned in our tagboard, it's something that adds value to a performer, be it a music-related item or not... Of course, one is - we hope to add more entertainment value to the show for the audiences, two is - we hope the performers have added talents to show all of us!

It's definitely not a compulsory segment. For this segment, it's best for you to show something you are confident in and preferably better than your prepared song piece, right? (Yeah...that's what our judges have said too during QF1, but some of the contestants' special item wasn't impressive enough..but, of course we do not deduct points as it's a bonus segment!)

Just to clarify too, to be fair to everyone, we contacted all the current week Quarter-Final contestants on the week's Monday. Only those who remains uncontacted, may get the news on Tuesday instead. We try to work everything without any biased views, we hope everyone can understand..(of course, some leakages may happen due to the 'broadcast' between students and those who check this blog regularly...and this is something we can't avoid...)

So, on the fairness issue again....
All the contestants who successfully progressed to Semi-Finals, are required to submit their song choice in 4 days, which is the Tuesday that immediately comes after their Quarter-Finals. This is to minimise unfairness to the successful contestants from the last Quarter-Finals where their Semi-Finals comes right after that week.

This notice is to be strictly adhere to. After song submission, strictly no change of songs is allowed as semi-finals will be conducted in a Live Band format. The band has already practised the songs!

Rehearsals with the band will be arranged during the 2nd week of August, tentatively on Mon & Wed evenings for Semi-Finals 1 & 2 respectively. So, all semi-finalists, better make sure you are available on that week.

I have all the pictures and some videos on that first Quarter-Finals, hopefully we can put it up and show you guys soon. Will try..will try...:)
