Hark Performing Team is staging another concert!!!!!

Great....!

These few weeks, our Music Director has been having 'private' training sessions with all the performers...we hope they can bring out their best out of it! 加油！

In this unplugged concert, they will be performing songs like: 发现爱 - 林俊杰，金沙, 做你的男人 - 张信哲, 原点 - 孙燕资, 暖暖 - 梁静茹, 接受 - 梁静茹, 我怀念的 - 孙燕资, Life is Wonderful - Jason Mraz, This is Love - Jason & deMarco, 我爱的人 - 陈小春, 落叶归根 - 王力宏, 如果这都不算爱 - 张学友 and more!!!

Soon, coming in Mar/Apr 08, plans are in, to organise a mini-concert in a major shopping centre! Wow, wow....more exposures!

Learning Guitar is so fun and easy!

YES! Guitar can be so easy to learn!

This wonderful instrument which dates back so many centuries ago, is still gaining much popularity, due to its ‘easy-to-learn’ methodology, and its convenience to bring it just about anywhere.

The fuss-free of getting a simple guitar of just less than a $100, and playing right away, following some online free lessons, or easy-to-understand guitar books, sounds so alluring to many.

And yes, I say it’s so easy! (Of course, you will face with some buzzing & humming when forming simple chords shape, but that will always improve with practice!)

In a city like Singapore where weekends are always typically evolving around movies-watching, window-shopping, café-drinking, or maybe mahjong-ing… why not pick up a guitar from your brother, your neighbour, or whoever and start strumming away those simple chords!

I'm sure that activities like these distract you away from your day-stress, and work your soul (emotions), mind (mental) and body (physical) in this musical journey challenge!

Oohh… Haha..Pleasure can be so simple.

And now with the power of technology, you can basically start to learn now!

A great way to start 2008! A full-house concert this FRIDAY!

Things have been great with the start of 2008!

Let me share some updates with you especially this coming friday’s concert – 《我们的代表歌曲》

Oh yes, It’s good to hear that tickets are all snapped up, and we will be expecting a full house this Friday! What a fantastic way to welcome 2008 with our very first concert!

Oh, did I have mentioned that this concert is also the first for these 15 performers from our Hark Performing Team since our Nov/Dec selection?
YES....They are going to handle the entire show by themselves, from arranging the programme sequence, right up to hosting!


期待！期待！

They have been practicing every week! We applause for their hard work, enthusiasm!


Well, we had our very first meeting for this concert preparation on 2nd week of December 07. That was where everyone had their first initial meet-up with their fellow group members!

With only 4 weeks to prepare for a performance repertoire of 6 songs per group, we gave all of them the option to perform in a mixture of unplugged and minus-one music (to lighten the load of the instrumentalists!), but eventually all of them chose to present their songs in unplugged!!! Good spirit!

Most of their weekly practices were conducted using Hark Studios, we have taken some peeks during their practices and I say they all sound very interesting!

Let’s see.

They are going to do medleys of songs, will be using keyboard effects to enhance their music arrangement, singing duets and harmonizing, and....(!) I saw one preparing to use a prop (cowboy hat) to bring out the essence of the song!!! (Haha..you guys should’ve guessed what the song is, right? It's soo EASY....)

Alright, let’s stay tuned and enjoy a great show this Friday! 11 Jan 08, 8pm!

We have just added a new article in our 'Music Articles' in our LIBRARY category...

It shares tips on how singers can improve their stage presence when performing in a group/band. Here's the article for your ease of enjoyment!



SINGER - How to improve your Stage Presence in a band!

To perform a great show, just standing still and singing great is definitely not enough! You have to do more to keep audience engaged and interested in your performance, especially if you are going to sing more than just 1 song.

• Choose songs that you love!
  Or Love the songs that you are going to sing!You must put your heart and soul in the songs you perform. If they are songs that you can’t relate to, you are sure to ruin the performance as you can’t sing it with conviction! You are the performer, you have to fully understand the expressions and the meaning of the song to put through a TRUE performance!
  


• Smile!
  You must show that you are having a great time. You may be singing a sad love song. Yes, you can’t smile through that song. However, in between song performances, bring back the smile! And of course, do not only sing entirely sad songs for your entire repertoire, mix it up with some up-tempo songs, happy songs!
  


• Move around the stage!
  Do not just stand still, you will come across as being stiff! Walk around the stage, move! This will, at the same time, help to relax you a little if you’re nervous. (Helps to keep your mind off the tension!) Get use to it. Make full use of the stage. You must take care of audiences on the left and right side. Your movement around the stage will attract the audiences too.
  


• Reference from the star performers
  Do a search around the internet for performance videos by good stage performers! Watch how they move, how they make use of their body language. Reference their moves, not copy!
  


• Make use of your facial expressions and poses to go with the song lyrics
  Singing is an expression. It’s just like acting. You are like an actor/actress, only in a musical form. You have to make use of your body language, facial expression to express your feelings. It helps in your delivering your voice emotions too.
  


• Give the limelight to other performers too
  You are performing as a band, not as a solo performer! Remember to let go the limelight at appropriate places to your guitarists, keyboardist, drummer.
  


• Communicate with the audience
  Involve the audience. You can’t just introduce your song and you start singing. Interact more. Ask questions if the audience is responsive. If not, share information with them, e.g. how you are feeling today, what the songs meant to you, etc. Let them know more about you. It would be good if you can bring out your character to let them know you better.

More Tips:

1. Take drama classes if you have trouble doing your facial expressions, body language.

2. When you practice when your band, practice as if there’s an audience in front of you. This will prepare you mentally on how you would use your facial expression and how you would moving in front of them.

3. Always say ‘Thank You’!

4. Always warm-up properly before performing to ensure your voice is fully ready to hit all ranges. This is a MUST!
